Subject:Lawton/ Funston - Traffic Calming Measures
Hello council members,
This email is in regards to agenda item 5j for the 6/2 council meeting (today).
The rampant speeding from cut-through traffic continues in the Meadow Park neighborhood, to bypass
the South / Board St. stop light and we'll known traffic issues.
We ask that council please consider carving out a small part of the project budget, not necessary for the
planning contract, to implement low-cost traffic calming measures. In particular, the intersections of
Meadow & Woodbridge as well as Lawton & Funston seem to experience the most speeding. As such,
rubber speed bumps along Meadow & Lawton, or a small, temporary roundabout version of what's at
Islay & Chorro (rubber circle with vertical reflectors) at said intersections to prevent excessive speeding
and rolling stops.
We recognize the challenges faced by the city and police to address this ongoing issue. We're worried for
our children's safety and fear it will only get worse without measures taken soon.
We believe these temporary measures would provide short-term safety benefits while the larger, more
permanent measures are studied, planned and implemented. These measures could provide valuable
information to help the planning process as it relates to adjacent neighborhoods that may be impacted
by the broader South-Broad project.
Kind regards,
Alec Lance
