Dear Public Records Officer / Custodian of Records,
Pursuant to the California Public Records Act (Cal. Gov. Code § 7920.000 et seq.) and Article I, § 3(b) of
the California Constitution, I am formally requesting copies of public records maintained by the San Luis
Obispo Police Department.
Specifically, I am requesting any and all body-worn camera (BWC) footage, dashcam footage, and the
associated police arrest reports/narratives related to the following incident:
Suspect Name: Steven Wilson (Age 55 / Transient)
Date of Incident: Saturday, May 23, 2026
Time of Incident: Approximately 7:56 p.m.
Location: 1300 block of Madonna Road, San Luis Obispo
Details: Suspect engaged in a 20-minute standoff, threatening "suicide by cop" and falsely
claiming to have a firearm. The incident concluded when an officer deployed a less-lethal foam
baton/slug munition to take the suspect into custody.
I request that these video files be provided in a digital format via a downloadable cloud link.
If there are any fees whatsoever associated with the search, review, or duplication of these records,
please do not fulfill this request and cancel it immediately. I am only able to receive this footage if it can
be provided free of charge.
Thank you for your time and assistance.
Sincerely,
Nicholas Wuytens
