Subject:improvements at the intersection of South and King
I support the proposed improvements to the intersec?on of South and King. It is very dangerous to cross anywhere
along South Street aka “CA-227”. Families walking and biking their kids to Hawthorne Elementary take their life in their
hands at that crossing. The loca?on is almost halfway between Broad and Higuera, so this may influence drivers to slow
down along all of South.
The City has made several improvements to South, but traffic con?nues to move at a high rate of speed, far beyond the
posted 35 MPH. Speed enforcement or a radar sign would be welcome.
Has there been any thought to a crosswalk at South and Meadow? The exis?ng island already has a curb cut. Traffic is
dangerous here for the same reasons as King Court, but Meadow is the beginning of the paved Meadow Park
walkway/bikeway. The walkway/bikeway runs from Meadow to the end of Bridge Steet, which takes walkers/bikers all
the way to South Higuera. Anyone walking this trail would not use the new King crossing.
Thanks for your considera?on!
