Subject:King Ct / South St Intersection (Project 2001059)
Dear Honorable Councilmembers,
I am voicing my support for the updates to the South Street and King Court Crossing Project, replacing the
previously planned pedestrian hybrid beacon (PHB) with a standard tra?ic signal. I believe that this change is an
improvement over the previously planned PHB and one that will retain benefits to pedestrian and bicycle
crossings, while also improving access for King Court drivers.
One additional improvement I’d like to see in the plans for implementing better the standard tra?ic signal:
Limit the pedestrian crossing (crossing between King Ct. and King Street across South Street) to reside at the East
side of the intersection instead of having pedestrian crossings on both the East and West side of the intersection,
leaving the potential for left turns from King Ct. onto South Street towards Higuera (the most challenging turn)
when the tra?ic light is green for the King Ct/King St drivers during higher pedestrian and bike usage times (usually
mornings and afternoons).
Thank you for your consideration and with appreciation,
Julie Forbes
