Current Language
All off-campus events with alcohol must be held at a residence**, including a chapter facility, or a venue under third party management that is not legally associated with the chapter
in any capacity ("third-party venue").
**We recommend that you check with your landlord and the City of SLO zoning requirements if the residence that you have chosen is allowed to host Fraternity/Sorority events. Here is

For all events with alcohol that are located at a third party venue, a copy of the contract with the chapter and event management company or third party venue must be submitted with
the party registration.
City Proposed Language
All off-campus events with alcohol must be held at a chapter facility*, or a venue under third party management that is not legally associated with the chapter in any capacity ("third-party
venue").
*Fraternity and Sorority events can only be held in chapter houses that have valid Conditional Use Permits from the City of San Luis Obispo or at a third-party venue. Hosting Fraternity
or Sorority events in residences that do not have a Conditional Use Permit from the City of San Luis Obispo is illegal and can result in citations from the City of San Luis Obispo.
This includes Fraternity or Sorority events held in single-family homes, as the City’s laws do not allow chapter houses to be permitted in these neighborhoods. For more information

City Proposed Language to Article II of the Event Registration Procedure
Article II – Legal
Any event as defined above must be compliant with all applicable laws, including but not limited to the below requirements:
The organization, members and guests must comply with all federal, state, and local laws. No person under the legal drinking age my possess, consume, provide or be provided alcoholic
beverages
Organizations, members and guests must follow the federal law regarding illegal drugs and controlled substances. No persons may possess, use, provide, distribute, sell and or manufacture
illegal drugs or other controlled substances while on organizational/ chapter premises or at any activity or event which is sponsored or endorsed by the chapter
Events are only to take place in compliance with all municipal laws including land use regulations related to the operation of a fraternity/sorority. Any sanctioned event that takes
place within city limits at a location in which fraternity operations have not been approved by the city is a violation of city ordinance and of this policy.
Laws local to San Luis Obispo are also enforced with events. The following is provided for convenience only and is not all-inclusive. Laws may change and it is up to the chapter to be
aware of all applicable laws. Some relevant laws include:
Noise Ordinance
7 A.M. to 10 P.M.: Noise that can be heard 50 feet from the source is a violation
10 P.M. to 7 A.M.: Noise that can be heard across the property line is a violation
Safety Enhancement Zones
Fines are doubled for the following violations:
Noise
Unruly Gathering
Social Host Liability
Public Urination
Open Container
Designated times for Safety Enhancement Zones may vary, but typically occur during:
Mardi Gras (Thursday - Wednesday)
St. Patrick’s Day
Halloween
