Subject:Proposed King st. south st. traffic signal
As a person who lives on King St. and crosses South st. Daily, I highly endorse the proposal of a traffic light at that
intersection. Since the new crosswalk signal was put in, crossing South St. as a pedestrian has become increasingly
dangerous. Cars do not stop, even when they see you in the crosswalk. Some even wave as they narrowly miss hitting
me. During the school year, kids use the crosswalk to get to Hawthorne school. I've seen near misses as kids try to cross
the street.
I also use the intersection to get out of my neighborhood. This is becoming increasingly more difficult as the traffic has
increased on South St. I can take several minutes to be able to turn from King St on to South St.
In addition to a traffic light, I would like to see a red-light camera at this intersection. People are used to driving well
over the speed limit on South St., lowering the speed limit to 30mph will help traffic slow down and stop at the new
light.
I have lived in my house on King St. for 33 years and have seen the changes in traffic that all the new building has
caused.
I really hope the City of SLO puts in a traffic light with red-light camera at the intersection of South St. and King St.
