Subject:Item 6i, Amendment to Management Compensation Resolution
Dear Mayor Stewart and Members of the Council,
Request you pull Item 6i, Amendment to Management Compensation Resolution, from the Consent Agenda for
discussion. This is not a matter that should be on the Consent Agenda. The recommended change deserves careful
consideration and discussion to determine if there is a need for change, and if so, the pros and the cons of taking this
particular action.
The change recommended does not appear prudent for several reasons. It removes the Council from decisions which
affect the finances of the City. Compensation for various Department Heads could be disparate, and thus create tension
among said individuals - or requests for additional compensation from those who received less. And it reduces the funds
available for other uses.
At a time when we do not have sufficient funds to hire additional staff to maintain parks, sidewalks, street trees,
investigate municipal code compliance, etc., such a change seems ill-advised.
Obviously, I do not support this change.
