Subject:Support for Full Traffic Signal at South Street & King Court
Hello,
My name is Kristina Doles. I am a resident of the Village Condos and the parent of two children, ages 5
and 8, whom I walk to Hawthorne Elementary every school day. We also regularly bike across this
intersection to go downtown.
Thank you for the care and attention being given to this intersection. Lives quite literally depend on it.
I am writing in support of the installation of a full traffic signal with "No Turn on Red" signage. As you
are aware, a Pedestrian Hybrid Beacon (PHB) would significantly restrict residents of King Court from
making left turns onto South Street. My concern is not with my own commute time — it is with the
predictable consequence of impatient drivers forced to wait through limited turn opportunities, creating
risk for both drivers and pedestrians. Recent traffic studies indicate that vehicle volumes exiting King
Court do meet the threshold for a full signal. Additionally, with technology now allowing the fire
department to remotely control traffic lights, there is no compelling reason to revert to a PHB.
I would also like to advocate for the following design elements at this intersection:
Bike boxes
A conservative Leading Pedestrian Interval (LPI)
Gateway treatment on South Street to alert drivers to the upcoming signal
Reduced crossing distance through bulb-out measures into South Street
Thank you again for your attention to this important safety issue. I urge you to move forward with plans
for a full traffic signal.
Respectfully,
Kristina Doles
