Subject:South & King Street Cross Walk
Hello City Council,
I write as a Meadow Park neighborhood resident and parent of two children who attend Hawthorne
Elementary. I am writing regarding the King Street and South Street crosswalk. I know this crosswalk will
be discussed tonight at the council meeting and I believe the crosswalk should have a traffic light
installed to protect bikers and pedestrians. If this is not possible, a flashing stop light that requires cars
to stop would greatly improve safety of this highly used crosswalk.
The current flashing lights are not well respected by cars who are usually traveling at extremely high
speeds along South street and often do not stop for bikers and pedestrians, and have not noticed
children crossing on numerous occasions. Given that this is a highly used crosswalk for the elementary
school, I implore the council to vote to place a stop light to protect this intersection and those traveling
to and from school.
