Subject:Input: South & King St intersection
As a resident in Woodbridge condos next to South Street I walk from Exposition Drive to Meadow Park two to
three times per week. I appreciate how the current flashing lights enables pedestrians, dog walkers, and
parents with their Emerson Elementary children to safely cross South Street. I have seen no concerning
incidents or close calls.
When there are no people crossing, the high volume traffic moves through smoothly. The introduction of a
traffic signal would increase noise from cars and trucks decelerating, braking and again accelerating at King
Street. Idling cars at the intersection increases exhaust emissions and driver frustration. I do not support
adding a signal at South Street.
It is possible some drivers would avoid a controlled intersection at King Street by rerouting through Exposition
Drive and Woodbridge Street. I do not have an answer for that concern. The future installation of traffic circles
on Woodbridge might make short-cutting through this neighborhood even more enticing since traffic circles
facilitate smooth movement from one side to the other. Either way, I support replacing stop signs with traffic
circles, when possible.
The risk at King Street that currently is unmitigated is to drivers trying to turn left onto South Street from either
the King Street or the King Court side.
