Thank you for your thoughtful deliberations. I listed to that entire meeting. At that time you recommended cutting down ONE eucalyptus - the one with a branch pointing towards the house - with a mitigation plan to replant 6 trees - 1 in the front yard and 5 in the back yard. I was pleased with this outcome. Unfortunately Ms. Tway - most likely after she was emailed by the neighbor at 295 Los Cerros Drive to the left of the property owner - drastically changed your recommendation. She is allowing all 3 eucalyptus trees to be cut down on JUNE 24 with no additional mitigation. That is only 6 trees to be replanted in this yard that has been gutted of trees - all cut down without permits. I find it regrettable that a Community Development Director would ignore your recommendation, ignore the report done by an independent arborist stating the remaining 2 eucalyptus posed NO threats and indeed were healthy, did not do any due diligence and arbitrarily allowed the removal of these signature, decades-old, healthy trees from a neighborhood. I assume the owner of 295 stated his driveway had falling branches but I have lived here 40 years and have never seen one in his driveway that is about 40’ away from the trees.. Instead I have seen his 6 cars - Porsche, Lexus, BMWs parked heater skelter in the driveway and street and never in the garage……. I am including photos of the two additional eucalyptus that show no sick limbs and a beautiful, healthy canopy. I am dismayed by this poor decision that comes with no additional mitigation requirements. It is unfortunate that your work to serve the community appears to have been ignored. The tree removal request has been approved, and it is subject to a compensatory replanting plan requiring six (6) replacement trees. The property owner has also informed the City that the trees are expected to be removed this week on Wednesday, June 24.
