Subject:South and King Street Crossing
Hi Council,
I am writing today to both share some thoughts and voice my support for converting the hybrid beacon at
South Street and King Court into a standard traffic signal.
As a resident of this neighborhood and frequent user of this intersection, I have benefited from its use
when walking or biking, and while most drivers are respectful, I have also seen first hand that there can
be confusion with vehicles on how to use the signal and also vehicles that straight up miss or ignore the
flashing lights.
While I am in support of turning this into a standard signal, I think that the configuration of the light needs
to be done so in a manner that prioritizes pedestrian and bike safety, especially from vehicles
turning left off of both King street and King Court onto South street. I believe that this can be best
accommodated through the inclusion of an Exclusive Pedestrian "Scramble" Phase. This is
especially critical for children that rely on this crossing for a safe route to school from the Woodbridge
neighborhood.
Thank you,
--
Kathryn
