Dear City of San Luis Obispo City Clerk’s O?ice,
I hope this email finds you well. My name is Nicolas Burlinson, and I am a research Intern at the Public
Policy Institute of California researching housing developers within California. I understand that you are
incredibly busy, but I would greatly appreciate it if you could assist me with the current research project I
am engaged in.
I am trying to compile a complete list of active housing developers in California. I am requesting a bulk
export of all building permit records for residential new construction submitted to the City of San Luis
Obispo from January 1, 2017, through the present date. Ideally, I would love to receive this in CSV or
Excel format. The specific fields I am hoping to include are:
Permit number and application date
Property address and APN
Permit type / subtype (e.g., single-family, multifamily, apartment)
Number of dwelling units
Applicant name and contact information
Housing Developer name or the General Contractor name and contact information
Permit status and issuance date
This data will be used exclusively for non-commercial academic research aimed at better understanding
housing production and developer activity in California. I appreciate any help you are able to provide me
with. If any of the requested fields are unavailable or require additional review, please don't hesitate to
reach out.
