CAO RECOMMENDATION:
By motion,
1) Approve specifications for "Building Demolition Project: 2160 Santa
Barbara Street, Future Headquarters Fire Station Site, Specification
No. 95-19A. "
2) Authorize staff to advertise for bids
3) Authorize the CAO to award the contract if the lowest responsible bid
is within the budget.
DISCUSSION:
The City Council has approved the relocation of the City's main fire
station to the former Southern California Gas Site at the intersection of
Santa Barbara and South Streets. The construction of the new facility
dictates the removal of the existing office/warehouse building. The
maintenance facility will remain and be utilized by the Fire Department.
CONCURRENCES:
The Planning Commission has approved the use permit.
FISCAL IMPACT:
The 091-193 budget (page E-6) identified funding for the construction of
the new fire station. $2,213,000 remains in the project account.
Engineer's Estimate: $ 120, 000
Contingencies: S 20.000
TOTAL: $ 140,000
There are some unknown quantities expected in the demolition due to
buried objects. For this reason, staff is requesting higher contingency
funding than usual.
