Jones Sent:Friday, July 17, To:Scott, Rick Hello, I am researching the case involving Matthew Dylan Jones, who was arrested following a domestic violence investigation and SWAT response on February 8, 2026, in San Luis Obispo, California. Pursuant to the California Public Records Act (Government Code §§ 7920.000 et seq.), I respectfully request copies of the following public records related to this incident: Body Worn Camera (BWC) footage Dash Camera footage Incident Report Suspect: Matthew Dylan Jones, 54 Victim: Adult female, 65 Date of Incident: February 6, 2026 Date of Arrest: February 8, 2026 Officer(s) Involved: Unknown (please include all responding officers, detectives, patrol officers, and members of the San Luis Obispo Regional SWAT Team) Location: Apartment in the 900 block of Monterey Street, San Luis Obispo, California 1 Incident Details: On February 6, 2026, officers with the San Luis Obispo Police Department responded to an apartment in the 900 block of Monterey Street following a report of a stabbing. Upon arrival, officers located a 65-year-old woman suffering from a significant arm injury consistent with being struck by a straight-edged object. She was transported to a local hospital for medical treatment. Detectives later determined that the victim had allegedly been assaulted by her partner, Matthew Dylan Jones, 54, who fled the residence before officers arrived. On February 7, 2026, officers returned to the apartment to contact the victim and discovered that Jones had returned to the residence. According to police, Jones refused to open the door and was uncooperative despite multiple attempts to contact him by telephone. Due to the violent nature of the investigation, the San Luis Obispo Regional SWAT Team was activated. At approximately 8:21 a.m. on February 8, 2026, SWAT officers safely took Jones into custody.
