Incident Details:
On February 6, 2026, officers with the San Luis Obispo Police Department responded
to an apartment in the 900 block of Monterey Street following a report of a stabbing.
Upon arrival, officers located a 65-year-old woman suffering from a significant arm
injury consistent with being struck by a straight-edged object. She was transported to a
local hospital for medical treatment.
Detectives later determined that the victim had allegedly been assaulted by her
partner, Matthew Dylan Jones, 54, who fled the residence before officers arrived.
On February 7, 2026, officers returned to the apartment to contact the victim and
discovered that Jones had returned to the residence. According to police, Jones
refused to open the door and was uncooperative despite multiple attempts to contact
him by telephone.
Due to the violent nature of the investigation, the San Luis Obispo Regional SWAT
Team was activated.
At approximately 8:21 a.m. on February 8, 2026, SWAT officers safely took Jones into
custody.
Jones was booked into the San Luis Obispo County Jail on suspicion of:
Charges
Felony Assault with a Deadly Weapon
Felony Domestic Violence
