The Downtown Association Board of Directors at its January, 2012 meeting reviewed th e
Council agenda item "Land Use and Circulation Elements Update" and noted the staff s
preliminary recommendation regarding stakeholder group composition as including th e
Downtown Association among the participants .
The Board directed that this memo requesting inclusion in the stakeholder group be
forwarded to the Council for consideration during your discussion of the item .
The Downtown Association board supports the idea of updating the community's pla n
and vision for its land use, circulation and other value-based programs outlined in th e
staff report . As an entity responsible for the health and beauty of Downtown for mor e
than three decades, the Downtown Association believes its understanding of the myria d
and complex elements that will be discussed would be a significant asset in the process .
As well, the Downtown Association's inclusion in former task forces including Parkin g
and Management Plan, Garden Street Design Plan, Downtown Design Concept Plan an d
numerous other issues including developing a hospitality zone and a Downtow n
pedestrian plan, illustrate its commitment to developing goals and values that best serv e
the community .
The Board respectfully requests that the Council adopt the staff recommendation to mov e
forward with the update and include the Downtown Association among the GPTF
(general plan task force).
