Post Date: lt/go/zozt 6:oo PM Investigators from the San Luis Obispo Police Deparlment have identified the victim of a November 2o,2o2lhomicide as Rick Fowler, a 64- year-old transient who lived in San Luis Obispo. Additionally,4z-year-old Marco Cota, Jr. of E:reter, CA is being detained in San Luis Obispo CountyJail on unrelated charges and is sirspected of murdering Mr. Fowler. Although, Cota, Jr. has notbilen formally charged with homicide, the San Luis Obispo Police Departrnent is working with the San Luis Obispo County DistrictAttorneys Office and are in the process of filing appropriate criminal charges. Cota Jr. is scheduled to appear in court regarding unrelated cases on December 6, zozt. On November 20, 2o2t,at about 4:59 PM, the San Luis Obispo Police Department responded to a medical aid call in Bianchi Open Space near San Luis Obispo Creek. During the initial investigation, responding PD and SLO Fire personnel located a deceased 64-year-old male with apparent injuries to his body. It was d.etermined this was a homicide and the investigation was turned over to the San Luis Obispo Police Departrnent Investigation Bureau. The investigation has identified a person of interest who is currently being held at the San Luis Obispo CountyJailbn unrelated charges. The suspect's name is notbeing release.d to ensure the integrity of the investigation. Additionally the victim's name is not being released until the next of kin is.notified.
