PRESENT: Franciskovich, Rizzo, Pearce, Palazzo, Fidler, Cox
STAFF PRESENT: Molly Cano, Tourism Manager Chair LeMieux called the meeting to order at 5:32 pm PUBLIC COMMENT

CONSENT AGENDA
ACTION: Moved by Pearce/Palazzo to approve the consent agenda with the updates to the TOT report and the Events Brochure report.

PRESENTATIONS
1. QUARTERLY REPORT BY CONTRACTOR Verdin Marketing presented the 3rd quarter (July - September) brochure report. They reported that overall the brochure is doing well. The brochure received 2,911 reads and 11,227 impressions. The likes increased by 25% in the quarter, and the post engagement was up 3% which makes it 1% over the national average for engagement. Advertising impressions were 311,478. The SLO Chamber of Commerce presented the quarterly report for GIA, PR and Visitor Center. To date 16 of the 26 GIA groups have been served. Lynne gave an overview of the press releases distributed during the quarter for both GIA events and non-GIA events. She also shared the media results including LA Times for Nature Corps, the pick-up on the Times Square promotion, the results on the pride in the plaza event coverage, Petergreenberg.com, and more. She also shared that the Chamber will be representing SLO at Cal Poly for the Homecoming event on November 16 for a giveaway at the booth and tourism information. The Visitor Services walk-ins were down slightly however phone calls and emails had increased.
2. TBID FIVE YEAR STRATEGIC CLARITY PLAN Clint Pearce presented the TBID’s five year strategic clarity plan to the committee. He shared an overview of the plan and the intention of the plan to help steer the direction for the TBID for the next five-years. The plan was distributed to the committee and is posted on the City’s website under the TBID.

1. 2014 SLO HAPPENINGS PROGRAM UPDATE The taskforce in conjunction with Verdin presented the updated program proposal as the result of the taskforce planning session. The taskforce reported that they vetted the two options of the expanded social media presence or the development of the app. The one concern was the availability of the information for the non-smartphone users. As a solution Verdin would create a template to mirror the SLO Happenings brand for the one-page event sheet updated monthly by the Chamber. Verdin reported that the android and ios would be feasible to create in year one. Ultimately, the taskforce recommended the direction of the app and to create new promotional and non-smart phone options to share the information. The Committee discussed the recommendation and requested that Verdin also establish bench marks and goals to track the success of the app.
ACTION: Moved by Palazzo/Cox to move forward with the app exploration for 2014 SLO Happenings program and for the taskforce to consider the firm options and advertising plan for recommendation to the committee in the November meeting.

COMMITTEE COMMUNICATION
GIA Report: No reports.
Tourism Program Update: Molly Cano presented the Tourism Program update. SAVOR 2013 Recap: • SAVOR Run- front page of the SLO City News • The run was great. Good turn out and great feedback on the course from participants • Full recap in November • The booth was a hit. Participants really enjoyed the bicycle blender interaction • Photos from the events are in the Rosetta report • 284 sign ups to the newsletter Visit California media event, September 24 in LA • Over 60 media in attendance • including Condé Nast Traveler, Los Angeles Times, AAA Westways, Johnny Jet, Peter Greenberg Productions, the Advocate and Jetset PR Summit • Very successful event- small destination attendance • Great work on coordinating efforts statewide • Good opportunities to hear from journalists, international PR reps, and VC team • Direct contact with Sunset, Westways, AFAR, and select freelancers
