After discussion amongst the committee members and contractors, the committee decided to postpone a recommendation since the topic needed to be considered more globally than just the website. The subcommittee needs to look at the overall tourism efforts and how these efforts can be streamlined in order to create a comprehensive brand message. The contractors were asked to meet and define efforts in order to present the committee with recommendation as to their collaboration. The item was therefore continued to a date uncertain. Too good to be true, right? Wrong. San Luis Obispo offers all these things and much more -spectacular beaches, world class golfing, great shopping, incredible wine-tasting, Hearst Castle, outdoor cafes and gourmet restaurants. And better yet, San Luis Obispo is easily accessible in both location and cost. San Luis Obispo, located midway between Los Angeles and San Francisco on California's Central Coast, also combines some of the most breathtaking scenery in the world, offering visitors a mix of volcanic peaks, desert-like dunes, winding creeks and bucolic green pastures, It was this unusual natural beauty, along with gentle climate, which first attracted the mission fathers to the area as they traveled along El Camino Real in the 1700's. They were so enchanted with their discovery that they decided to establish their most beautiful mission here, the fifth in what would eventually become a chain of 21 California missions. The varied influences of these humble beginnings can still be seen today. In fact, some things haven't changed a whole lot. The scenery is still gorgeous and the air is still fresh and clean. Agriculture continues to playa vital role in the local economy with weathered red barns and peaceful cows dotting surrounding ranch lands. Beautifully restored Victorian "painted ladies" still rim the tree-lined streets and the mission still serves as the heart and core of the city. In fact, many of the city's numerous cultural celebrations still take place in, or near, the mission. These events reflect the multitude of cultures which have made their mark on this multi-faceted little town. Place these exciting happenings in a small-town atmosphere surrounded with natural beauty, great sightseeing, shopping and sporting opportunities and superb wine tasting, and you've got everything you could possibly want in a vacation spot. It's easy to discover the world in a single weekend. # # # For more information about events, attractions and visitor services in San Luis Obispo, phone the San Luis Obispo Chamber of Commerce at 805-781-2777 or visit the Chamber's website at www.visitslo.com. • San Luis Obispo Chamber of Commerce Report to City of SLO-PCC Committee Public Relations Contract/January 2010 CitfTourism Action Results 1.1 Working with Brian Tally and Becky Gray on relationships with local wineries and how to best work with the wineries and how to gain better exposure for them in the national press -nresentation at pee.
