Call to Order a. Zach called the meeting to order at 3:10 p.m. b. Silent roll call was taken and with 12 voting members in attendance at 3:10 p.m., quorum was met. B. Approval of Meeting Minutes - #24-07, April 18, 2024 a. Motion #1 (Hermann/Rudd) “Move to approve minutes from meeting #24-07, April 18, 2024.” b. Minutes stand approved by unanimous vote. C. Open Forum a. None D. Reports a. Chair/Vice Chair, Sam Andrews & Zach Stever i. Sam Andrews 1. No report. ii. Zach Stever 1. Zach shared an update on ASCC elections. ASCC hosted a student BBQ and held their last meeting of the year. Commencement is coming up. b. City Manager – Greg Hermann, Designee i. Greg shared that parking will be covered at the upcoming City Council meeting. Some of the proposed changes include discounting the rate and increasing the parking time frame to three hours. ii. Greg is coming to Cal Poly on May 23 to present to IFC regarding how to stay engaged with the city of SLO government. iii. On June 5, there is a homelessness response event including a resource fair. iv. State of the City coming up on May 30 – look back at 2023 and look forward to the next fiscal year. v. There is a free concert at the Jack House on Mother’s Day. vi. Greg provided that the RFP was approved for a bike share program. c. Neighborhood Wellness Civility Report – Christine Wallace i. Absent. d. Residents for Quality Neighborhoods – Brett Cross i. Brett reported that the neighborhoods surrounding Cal Poly have satellite fraternity houses. SAP has been meeting with Cal Poly’s Fraternity & Sorority Life. e. Community Representatives Reports – Abe Lincoln & Mila Vujovich-LaBarre i. Mila shared that it’s been quiet in the neighborhoods in the last month or so. She has sent non-emergency phone number lines out to neighbors. ii. She suggested that students are told when the upcoming trash pickup days are so that their belongings can be shared and reused. iii. Mila shared flyers and information regarding the Mayor’s Award for Community Service. Thanks to Mayor Stewart and the San Luis Obispo City Council for recognizing student community service volunteers. iv. Abe – absent. E. Old Business i. None F. New Business a. SCLC Transition and Introductions i. Michelle shared that Cal Poly’s ASI elections are complete – Ashleigh Spragins is the new President-elect. Zach shared that Lucia Lunderos is the new ASCC President. ii. Michelle shared that this is the last SCLC meeting of this academic year. Michelle asked the group if they would like to convene in August or in September. Discussion continued and no formal decision was made. b. SCLC Community Member-at-Large Application Review i. Sam Andrews is recognized at 3:25 p.m. ii. Sam shared with the group that SCLC hasn’t received any member-at-large applications. Joy asked what the vacant position represents for the group and wondered if the position could be listed as open on our website. Greg shared that if the group wants to keep it open, word of mouth is important. Sam asked the group if they wanted to keep the application open, they could take a vote. iii. The group asked if we should revisit the meeting time of 3:10 p.m. in a future meeting. iv. Sam asked the group for an informal vote to support re-opening the application. All supported re-opening. c. 2024-25 Year End Goal Setting i. Sam shared that they’d like to discuss what the group could focus on next year. ii. The group discussed that they’d like to see sub-committees formed to focus on specific neighborhoods and other relevant topics. Members suggested that the overarching goal of the sub-committees could be improving neighborhood relationships including providing tools to the community focused on inclusiveness, safety, and support. Nicolina suggested that SCLC could look at proactive and responsive approaches to relationship building – SLO solutions could support this. iii. Mila shared that the group could develop a magnet or other giveaway including helpful numbers for community members. iv. Sam asked the group for goals that have measurable outcomes. v. Chris shared that colleges and partners in the room could collaborate on events or initiatives with the goal of fostering in-depth conversations. The group discussed the need for a budget to support events. Cuesta is hosting student events that could potentially be hosted in the community. Cuesta will be doing a month of service in December 2024 or January 2025. Concerns were brought up about the likelihood that students will attend community events, however, a month of service is appealing to many students who need service hours. Anders shared that fall quarter is an ideal time to host a community service- related event. The group talked about starting a campaign in fall and culminating in a block party or group prize. Good Neighbor Day is in September. The group agreed that student input is critical in this planning. Katherine shared that fraternities and sororities use a point system to encourage service engagement with students. They shared that it can be difficult to know what opportunities are available in the community. vi. Greg suggested that the first meeting next year could be an opportunity to review the MOU and discuss what the top priorities for that specific year could be. What is discussed becomes the plan for the year. vii. Andy shared that the group could expand on the “I Love SLO” campaign. d. Year-end Celebration i. Sam asked if the group had any acknowledgements to share. The group acknowledged different members of the committee for their work throughout the year. G. Voting Member Reports a. Voting members gave their reports. b. Mayor Stewart shared that the City of San Luis Obispo’s budget is approved on May 4. H. Announcements I. Adjournment - Meeting adjourned at 4:24 p.m.
