Dear City Council Members ,
Thank you for taking the time to read this response to Ms . Deborah Marcus' appeal regarding her hom e
business, also I would like to thank City Licensing and Planning staff for their due diligence in dealin g
with this issue .
Since day one of this commercial piano teaching business it has been bothersome to the peace an d
quiet of the neighborhood ; increased traffic, no parking and the noise . As a long time San Luis Obisp o
resident I never thought I would be involved in such an unfortunate situation that could not be worke d
out with open communication and understanding of the parties involved .
I have written letters and spoken at hearings in response to these appeals and as a neighbor of Ms .
Marcus' my opinion has not changed in all these years, please revoke the commercial business licens e
and return our neighborhood to what it was meant to be zoned residential housing .
Moreover, there have been many misrepresentations from those speaking on behalf of Ms . Marcus, it
has never been my intention to 'run the music teacher out of town', conversely I believe music adds a
tremendous amount of value to the quality of our lives on so many levels, I am asking that the busines s
be relocated to an appropriate location . Ms . Marcus has concurred as a renter it would be to o
expensive for herself or the property owner to remodel the townhouse to reduce the noise leve l
thereby accommodating the neighbor who shares an adjoining wall . It was an ill thought out plan t o
place a business of this sort in an area that has no parking, the driveway is a dangerous throughway an d
there is a connecting wall to a private residence .
Please side with City Licensing and Planning and deny the request for continuing this commercia l
business .
