Inspection Notes:SLO Fire Department followed up on a tenant complaint concerning Fire and Life Safety Systems at
849 Higuera Street on 03/23/2026 at 09:55 AM with Property Owner Gary Stevenson.
Note: Thank you for addressing gas meter utility identification and installing an approved cover over
the electrical junction box (located at the Fire Sprinkler Riser back wall).
Property Management is directed to address the following items at this property before follow-up
inspection:
1. The Fire Sprinkler Riser (located in building 847 Higuera, Corazon Café) was found with the chain
and padlock cut/removed from the 3 tamper switches (please see attached photos). Property
Management is directed to reinstall the chains and locks to secure the tamper switches, according to
(CFC 901.4.7.1 access).
2. Apt #229 smoke detector found non-operational during inspection. Please repair and/or replace
the smoke detector life safety system in accordance with (CFC 901.8 Removal of or Tampering with
Equipment).
Note: While performing the inspection in Apt. #229, apparatuses used for smoking were observed on
a nightstand next to the bed. Per Property Management, "The tenant will be issued a tenant citation
for violating the tenant lease agreement". Property management is recommended to reinforce the
no-smoking policy.
Note: Due to prior occupancy, not all dwelling units were accessible during the inspection. Property
Management is directed to provide a record of completion of the inspection and maintenance log for
all smoke detectors in each unit, and to test them regularly and routinely.
A reinspection will occur 30 days after the initial inspection for Item #1 and 7 days for Item #2. If you
have any questions about violations or re-inspections, please get in touch with Inspector Brandon
*Please note: If a third inspection is required due to non-compliance, a fire-inspection fee of $271 may be charged for that inspection, and
every inspection thereafter until compliance is obtained. Failure to comply may result in a misdemeanor citation and an appearance by
you in court.Page 1 of 3
