After reviewing all active applications and interviewing candidates,the Council Subcommittee is pleased to recommend Ms. Lockary and Ms. Cruikshanks for appointment. I feel a low impact tourist industry would be an appropriate direction for development of San Luis Obispo. After watching my home town of Santa Fe, New Mexico, become an arts center and one of the most popular tourist destinations in the country, I can see much of the same potential for San Luis Obispo. Our location, half way between Los Angeles and San Francisco, combined with the city's natural beauty, if properly cultivated, could draw artist who need a nurturing environment in which to create and exhibit their work. Their fans would follow. We allready have a well respected and lively musical community and will soon have a performing arts center but we need to give encouragement to artists working in other mediums well as support to programs that are established and expanding. I feel that my background as an art gallery owner and my involvement with community anizations shows a history of commitment and affection for San Luis Obispo. I would like to be a member of a committee who's job it is to promote our beautiful and unique city .
