---End of Public Comment---
ACTION: Council supports moving forward with improvements while
keeping staff recommended enhancements and provided the following
comments:
Key priorities include addressing unprotected left turns, improving
lighting for safety, adding or strengthening flex posts, and planning
for an eventual full reconstruction of the corridor.
There is concern that on street parking limits safe public access,
and additional discussion is needed about trade offs related to
public safety and vehicle circulation.
There is strong interest in pursuing Cal Poly’s offer to explore a
quick build roundabout at Grand and Slack.
Members also want more protected bike lanes, expanded green
paint, and additional pedestrian safety measures, especially at
Frederick and Grand, where speed humps may help slow traffic.
If curb protected bikeways aren’t feasible, more visible and durable
delineators should be used, and opportunities to add permanent
protected barriers should be analyzed where they won’t interfere
with emergency access.
Lighting remains a longstanding safety concern and should be
improved, though solutions must balance night sky protection and
potential vandalism.
Better signage is needed.
Cost estimates should be obtained for removing medians.
While this is a Tier 2 project, maintaining momentum on Tier 1
projects is also important.
