Subject: Permanent Home for SLO Little Theatre
City Council Members,
We intend to have several representatives of our board present at the Jan. 3rd study session for the Palm/Nipomo
Parking Structure project.
If possible, we would like a few minutes to speak at the meeting. Since our last contact we have made enormous
strides both as an organization and as regards moving towards realizing a permanent home. We have completed our
first ever strategic plan for the organization including a 5 year plan to realize a new and permanent home.
We have also made the following progress -
** We have gone from having wildly varying levels of profitability in our shows, to consistent profitability, to
nearly sold out runs in just two years.
** We now have 5 paid staff positions (the most in the history of the organization) and a yearly operating budget of
nearly $500,000. We still have nearly $400,000 in our investment portfolio.
** We recently closed an online questionnaire of our constituents and received just shy of 250 responses and are
compiling this for use as programming data for the planned new facility and will forward that to you when
completed.
** At our last yearly board retreat we all reaffirmed our commitment to a new and permanent facility for our
organization.
** We are seeking letters of support from various community groups starting with one that has already been offered
from the Downtown Association.
** We are putting together an RFP for having a professional feasibility study done for a permanent new building.
We look forward to working with you and the City to make this project a reality.
