The city of Atascadero achieved the highest recycling rate in 1995 with a 53 percent reduction. According to George Luna, Atascadero City Council Member and IWMA Delegate, "our City was so successful because of our comprehensive recycling programs implemented early on by Wil-mar, our Recycling Committee and the great cooperation of our residents and businesses" Recycling rates for the other members were as follows.. Arroyo Grande-28 percent, Grover Beach-43 percent;Morro Bay- 35 percent,Pismo Beach- 37, San Luis Obispo -39 percent and the County- 17 percent. The region has also greatly reduced the amount of waste disposed of each day. The average rate is 4.6 pounds of garbage per person each day. The lowest rate is in the County at 3.7 pounds of garbage per person each day- TnTCI P M7
