Settle��� Prepared By: Sherry Stendahl, Council Secretary SUBJECT: Nomination to the Board of Directors of the Central Coast Commission for Senior Citizens,Area Agency on Aging. RECOMMENDATION Nominate Walter Schroeder for appointment to the Central Coast Commission for Senior Citizens(CCCSC) Board of Directors to fill an unexpired term to end August, 1998. DISCUSSION The CCCSC is a non-profit, private corporation designated by the California Department of Aging as the Area Agency on Aging for San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara Counties. The 12 member Board of Directors includes.nominees from San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara County Supervisors, and the San Luis Obispo, Santa Maria and Santa Barbara City Councils. Other members are recommended by community agencies and organizations. The Board of Directors makes policy decisions in carrying out the functions of planning, pooling, and coordinating, mandated under the Older Americans Act, in its role as the Area Agency on Aging. The Board also oversees the operations of the Central Coast Commission which includes a Senior Employment Program, Health Insurance Counseling and Advocacy Program, and an Information and Assistance Program. An unexpired term exists on the CCCSC with the passing of Mr. George Brudney, who served the City as a volunteer in several capacities for many years. Mr. Walter Schroeder, retired Cal Poly professor involved in many community activities, has agreed to complete the unexpired term. Mr. Schroeder's background and experience will make him an excellent representative of the City of San Luis Obispo. r1►'�
