SUBJECT: SURPLUS CITY PROPERTY
CAO RECOMMENDATION
Adopt a resolution declaring equipment as surplus property.
DISCUSSION
Section 906 of the City Charter requires that the City Council approve the sale or disposal of
surplus property with an estimated value greater than $100. The following items are recommended
for surplus by the Departments of Public Works and Utilities
• Public Works Departarent The Director of Public Works has identified two pickup trucks as
surplus to the needs of the City. These vehicles have been replaced in accordance with the
City's fleet management policy.
• Utilities DepartmenL The Utilities Director has identified a sewer-rodder, a trash pump and a
generator as surplus to the needs of the City. This equipment has been replaced in accordance
with the City's equipment replacement policy.
• Police DeparlmenL The Police Chief has identified one pickup, five sedans, and three
motorcycles as surplus to the needs of the City. These vehicles have been replaced in
accordance with the City's fleet management policy.
All items proposed for disposal are more fully described on Exhibit A. The disposal method will
be in accordance with the City's surplus property policy as determined by the Director of Finance to
be in the best interest of the City.
CONCURRENCES
The Department Heads for Public Works,Utilities, and Police concur with this recommendation.
FISCAL IMPACT
It is anticipated that the City will receive $21,450.00 in proceeds from the disposal of the vehicles
and equipment.

RESOLUTION NO. (2000 Series)
A RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN LUIS OBISPO
DECLARING EQUIPMENT AS SURPLUS PROPERTY
WHEREAS,the City Charter requires that the Council approve the sale or disposal of
surplus property with an estimated value greater than $100; and
WHEREAS,the Director of Public Works, Utilities Director and Chief of Police have
identified vehicles or equipment as set forth in Exhibit A which are no longer needed by the City.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of San Luis as
follows:
SECTION 1. All items of property listed in Exhibit A are no longer needed by the City
and are surplus property.
SECTION 2. Disposal of the property shall be made by sale at public auction or by
another method of disposal in accordance with the City's surplus property policy as determined
by the Director of Finance to be in the best interest of the City.

Council Member Romero requested additional information about the equipment recommended
for surplus and disposition on tonight's agenda(Item C-7).
Attached is supplemental information for the surplus items. Using the same format as the exhibit
in your agenda packet, it provides the following additional information for each item:

As noted in the agenda report, the Council has previously the Public Works Nissantruck as 1996; this
approved the replacement of all the surplus vehicles (most of attachment correctly
which are Police patrol vehicles approved for replacement in shows this as 1986.
the 1999-01 Financial Plan).
In accordance with fleet management policies, we have internally ensured that there are no other
cost-effective uses for these vehicles and equipment in other areas of our operations. Further, it
is Council-adopted policy that replaced vehicles should be disposed of to ensure that
replacement is not used.as an opportunity to expand the fleet, and thus increase fleet maintenance
and operation costs. In fact, specific Council authorization is required to retain replaced
vehicles.
