Prepared by: Reinie Jones,Engineering Assistant 123.
SUBJECT: UNDERGROUND FUEL STORAGE TANK REMOVAL
CAO RECOMMENDATION:
1. Approve plans and specifications for "Removal of Underground Fuel Storage Tanks,
Specification No.90018B".
2. Appropriate $14,000 to the project budget from the unappropriated balance of the general fund
to cover.removal costs.
3. Authorize staff to advertise for bids and authorize the CAO to award the contract if the lowest
responsible bid is within budget.
DISCUSSION:
In order to comply with state and federal regulations, three underground fuel storage tanks at the
City's Corporation Yard must be removed. The removal of these tanks is the second part of a
budget item which included installing the above ground fuel storage tanks at the Corporation Yard.
The above ground storage tanks were installed in January 2000.
FISCAL E*APACT:
There is currently $46,000 budgeted for removal of the underground storage tanks. An additional
$14,000 is needed to fund the project budget of$60,000. Adequate resources are available to fund
the proposed appropriation and retain fund balance at policy levels. The engineer's estimate is
based on assumptions that the soil under the tanks is not contaminatedHowever, if the soil is
contaminated under the tanks, additional excavation and testing will be required increasing the
costs substantially. Council will be notified if additional excavation and testing is required.
Engineer's Estimate $55,000
Contingencies 5 5,000
Total .$09M$60,000
Project plans and specifications are available for review in the Council office.
