SUBJECT: Waterline Replacement Project 99-00, Specification No. 90033
CAO RECOMMENDATION:
1. Approve plans and specifications for"Waterline Replacement Project 99-00."
2. Authorize staff to advertise forbids for"Waterline Replacement Project 99-00."
3. Authorize CAO to award contract if lowest responsible bid is within budget.
DISCUSSION:
Replacement of water distribution pipes, mainlines and related infrastructure is an ongoing program to
replace aging and deteriorating infrastructure. This program has three objectives: 1. Ensure reliable water
service. 2.Reduce the need for emergency repairs. 3. Enhance available fire flows.
A study of portions of the City's water distribution system has been completed and system improvements
have been identified. The following list of waterlines will be included in this project:
Beach—Marsh to High Price—High to Branch
Mitchell Dr.T Broad to Meadow High—Upham to Santa Barbara
Santa Rosa—Leff to ft Chorro—Church to Upham
Broad—Buchon to High Woodbridge,Victoria, Caudill
Two additional waterlines were identified for replacement during the 1999-2000 year. These waterlines
will be constructed under separate contracts.
CONCURRENCES:
The Community Development Department has granted a Notice of Exemption.
FISCAL IMPACT
This project was budgeted for in the 1999-01 Financial Plan, Appendix B,page 78. Currently,the Water
Distribution Improvements account has a balance of$1,718,206 to support this request.
Estimated Construction Cost
Engineer's Estimate $1,057,600
Contingencies(10%) $105,800
Total $1,163,400
Funds Available $1,718,206
