HomeMy WebLinkAbout06/20/2000, LIASON REPORT - SLOCOG/SLORTA MEETINGS liaison REpoRt June 8,2000 To: Council Colleagues From: Dave Romero ij Subject: SLOCOG/SLORTA Meetings SLOCOG At its meeting of June 7, 2000 the COG Board received a report from the Cal Trans _ Director that the repaving of Highway 101 between Los Osos Valley Road and Madonna Road would take place this summer. The COG Board received a consultant presentation regarding plans for a Coast Daylight train expected to start service by October 2001. This train will provide service between San Diego and San Francisco in addition to the service already provided by the Coast Starlight. There will be one new train each direction each day. Unfortunately for SLO, the timing of the schedules is dictated by the needs of the metropolitan areas, and the north and south train will pass through SLO approximately two hours before the Coast Starlight train. With the improvement of trackage and new equipment, run times between San Francisco and Los Angeles will be about eight hours, and between San Francisco or Los Angeles and SLO will be about four hours. The COG Board reviewed the scheduling of numerous Project Study Reports for aggressive highway improvement programs to be considered over the next six years. Of particular interest to SLO is the Prado Road interchange and the Orcutt Road Railroad overcrossing. The COG Board agreed to a memorandum of understanding with Santa Barbara County and Cal Trans to conduct studies to widen or replace the Santa Maria River Bridge on Route 101. SLORTA At its meeting of June 7, 2000 the SLORTA Board established a process for interviewing candidates for the position of Regional Transit Manager. The Board also received a presentation by a consultant regarding proposed efficiency improvements to the Regional Transit System. The Board also approved contracts with Ride On for operation of Dialysis Treatment Service and with Laidlaw for Fixed Route and Demand Response service in SLO County.
