RICHARD B. DE LONG
Dick completed a 30-plus year careerin in city management, most recently as City
Manager in San Mateo. He retired from the City Management profession in 1990 and
moved to San Luis Obispo with his wife Eddie in 1992. He has attended art classes at

the San Luis Obispo County Arts Council and as Chairman of the Art Council's Art in
Public Places Committee.
In 1998, he was commissioned to paint a mural for the League of California Cities
commemorating their 100th Anniversary. The mural was presented at the League's
annual conference in Long Beach last October and attendees were resented with
copies as posters.
Earlier this year, he Chaired the one day conference on Public Art funded by the City of

He is a strong advocate for art in public places and believes deeply in public art's ability
