DISCUSSION The Performing Arts Center Operating Agreement of the founding partners established the Central Coast Performing Arts Center Commission. The Commission consists of nine commission members, five designated by Cal Poly, two by the Performing Arts Center Foundation and two by the City. Each Commission member has a designated alternate. Upon the formation of the Commission in 1993, the City Council appointed the Mayor and City Administrative Officer as delegates and the Vice Mayor and Assistant City Administrative Officer as alternates. In addition, Council members other than the delegate and alternate will occasionally be asked to serve on standing or ad hoc committees for the Commission. Working with the retiring CAO, the current Assistant CAO (and in-coming CAO), has been reassessing the allocation of some responsibilities within the Administration Department. Among the recommendations they are making is that the Assistant to the CAO be appointed to complete the current term of the CAO on the Commission. The Assistant to the CAO works closely with both the CAO and Assistant CAO, and will be able to reflect their thinking at Commission meetings. She also serves as one of the City's budget analysts, and has good background knowledge for upcoming Commission budgetary issues. Finally, her current job duties encompass many of the City's cultural projects, and this assignment would be consistent with that role.
