Cannon [mailto:mikecC&CannonCorp.us] Sent: Tuesday, August 19, 2014 11:30 AM To: Ashbaugh, John; Carpenter, Dan; Christianson, Carlyn; Smith, Kathy; Marx, Jan; Codron, Michael; Dietrick, Christine; Lichtig, Katie; Mejia, Anthony Subject: Resolution of Intent to Overrule ALUC Inconsistency Determination City Council Members City of San Luis Obispo 990 Palm Street San Luis Obispo, CA 93401 -3249 Re: Resolution of Intent to Overrule ALUC Inconsistency Determination Councilmembers: I have personally been involved with this issue for quite some time and support the City Council in following the recommendation of staff. A few years ago I tried to rezone my property on Southwood Drive to build housing. The ALUC downzoned the property from R4 to R2 because it was in the boundaries that are being discussed tonight. I was very frustrated at the time and argued, unsuccessfully, that those ALUP boundaries were not based on science but were a cartoon someone created - one that conveniently and capriciously restricts growth in many areas within the city and county. Recently, a very compelling letter was submitted by Stephen Peck. I've read that letter and rather than rewriting the points of his letter, I would like to go on record as strongly supporting every point Stephen made in his letter to the City. Cannon was instrumental in helping provide and construct information to help the City reach the conclusions it has reached, and helped Stephen Peck reach the conclusions he has reached. i I have read the Council agenda report on Item PH4, which is the initial steps to consider overrule of San Luis Obispo County Airport Land Use Commission's (ALUC) determination that the Draft Land Use Circulation Element of Date and Implementing Zoning Regulations are inconsistent with the County Airport Land Use Plan (ALUP). I have also read the City's staff report and I wholeheartedly agree with the staff's recommendation to overrule the inconsistency determination and direct staff to forward the Draft Overrule findings to the ALUC and the State Division of Aeronautics for review. I am more than thrilled to see the City righting a serious wrong. Sincerely, Michael F. Cannon, P.E.
