Please let me know you have received and have forwarded accordingly. Thank you. My name is Victoria Carranza. I live at 1703 Santa Barbara St., San Luis Obispo, CA. I am an educator and environmental planning consultant; I am a native to the Central Coast. Also, I am an alumni of Cal Poly Natural Resources Dept. and an active member of the California Student Sustainability Coalition, a coalition of students at over 15 higher education schools, including Cal Poly, Cuesta, UCSB, UCLA, Butte Community College, Sacramento State, and more- up and down the state. I was one of the main community supporters of the county wide plastic bag ban. We saw that the county took one of the first steps in CA toward a now statewide ban as of this weekend. I want to see our city continue to take a leading role to decrease our disposable and one - time -use society - business owners shouldn't have to subsidize this wasteful habit either. The costs are low and styrofoam is a cheap insulator, yes, but it's life cyle is very cheap as well. Expansive landfills are in our future if we continue this disposable habit- which is not cheap. It's time to empower our food and beverage providers and buyers again and say no to the foam. The alternatives may be a higher unit price- a cost that the food and beverages providers must take into account when pricing their product and checking out a customer. It's marvelous to see the city setting new standards to hold us all accountable to preserving our natural resources. Reduction and reuse are the practical and honorable steps to take for our future dependence and love for this community. I hope the research provided in the special study report and the community's contributions will urge you to draft an ordinance to ban styrofoam. Thank you for your dedication and service, Victoria Carranza Victoria Rose Carranza Educator & Community Planning Consultant 805) 459 -6752
