Hello to all of you, I am writing you to show my support for the ban on styrofoam. As part of the Sustainability Council for The Chamber of Commerce and a small business owner, this is near and dear to my heart. I would certainly encourage you to go for Type 4. I realize regulation cost would increase in order to keep businesses honest with implementation. The upside would be a much cleaner, environmentally conscious city. We have a chance to again set a great example for other cities. I am sure you all know the serious environmental impact that plastic and especially Polystyrene are having on our environment. If you have not yet seen this documentary, Plastic Planet littp: / /www.wernerboote. coin/cnis /wernei- boote /index.t)hp ?lang- 2 &idcatside =l2 1 highly suggest you watch it. We as a city have a phenomenal opportunity to make everlasting, positive change with this ordinance. I really hope that everyone understands the fairly minimal monetary increase for these containers would be vastly offset by the overall well being of us and future generations. People have a tendency to look at this subject in very short term single subject terms. "Cost" being the money one business has to spend for the product. What is not factored in is the "True Cost" to a community. Health care costs for disease and respiratory ailments, environmental clean up factors, food chain pollution, the cost of jobs as fisheries become impacted, as well as costs we cannot even begin to understand. These items are known to be toxic, yet we keep producing them and using them because it is "good for our economy." This short term thinking has lead us to the environmental predicament we find ourselves in now. Let's join the cities that understand the time for change and leadership is now. With that I want to commend you all for taking this on. As with any change I am sure people will complain and gripe. But this is a matter of our well being as a species as well as all life on this planet. Our actions have far reaching consequences regardless of how much money we "saved ". Thanks you very much for reading this. All the best, Aaron Gomez thegoldconcept.com (805) 544 -1088 740 Higuera St San Luis Obispo, CA 93401 Hand making jewelry since 1971
