RE: BYPASS Reroute of Los Osos Valley Road
I purchased my home at 17 Vista Lane, Los Verdes Park 2, in 1983. Especially important
to me was the quiet and safe nature of the park community. Los Osos Valley Road dead -ended
at San Luis Creek. Entering and exiting Park 2 was safe, simple and efficient.
Imagine my surprise to learn that the City of SLO planned to build and connect an
enormous "100 year flood" bridge to Highway 101. From the very beginning, this project was
poorly planned — why else would traffic signals over the bridge and 101 over pass be so close
together to cause traffic backup?
Rather than look at other options, such as building a 101 overpass at Prado Road, the
City of SLO and Caltrans opted to widen LOVR past the entrances to Los Verdes Parks 1 & 2.
Widening the road to four lanes increased the volume, velocity and noise of traffic. The traffic
noise levels exceeded city standards, and standards were not enforced.
Now the City & Caltrans have a Traffic Relief Plan that will remove more buffer land
along the perimeter of the two Los Verdes Parks, and increase traffic on LOVR. This is simply
not acceptable to me as a homeowner and taxpayer. For these reasons, I strongly encourage
San Luis Obispo City Government, Caltrans, Chevron and any other parties to consider
reevaluating the S. Higuera Bypass to reroute Los Osos Valley Road. Please bypass my home,
the homes of my neighbors and the grounds of both Los Verdes Park 1 & 2 altogether.
Respectfully
