I'm a resident of Los Verdes Park 1 and request the City to advance the LOVR Bypass
project immediately. Our neighborhood is expressly against the first mitigation measure
option in the Chevron EIR as currently stated. The level of traffic and related
impacts through this corridor is not appropriate for an area zoned for low- density single
family homes, and there is no opportunity for safe pedestrian and cyclist travel from or
around our neighborhood. Given the current level of service on this section of road
(which the City is well aware is poor) and future development slated for this area of
town, a purpose -built Bypass is essential to move the amount of current and future
traffic to and around the freeway in a safe and efficient manner.
I'm a stay -at -home mom and our kitchen window and front patio slider have a view of
the park entrance so I get to see and hear the type and level of traffic that goes by on a
daily basis. During peak traffic hours (which are morning, lunch, and evening,) it is
difficult to get in and out of the neighborhood, and the increased traffic from future
development in the south area of the city will make it even more difficult. In addition to
the traffic from vehicles, pedestrian and cyclist traffic make the intersection dangerous
to navigate.
There are also many people who use the Los Verdes Park 1 entrance as a turn - around,
because it is the most convenient place to do so. Not only is this dangerous for
residents walking, or jogging with pets and children, it is expensive for our Homeowner's
Association to maintain our private roadways as it is without the additional city u -turn
traffic. Simply put, the section of LOVR between the 101 and S. Higuera is inadequate
to support the level of vehicle, pedestrian, and cyclist traffic, and will be even after the
101 interchange improvements have been completed due to the volume and purpose of
traffic in this area. The Bypass in necessary.
We recently moved to the area when my husband accepted a job at MINDBODY, and
we enjoy going on bike rides and walks with our 2- year -old. We'd like to be able to ride
or walk to adjacent services and shops, but don't feel comfortable, because it's unsafe.
My husband fully intended to bike to work, but after hearing from everyone that it's very
unsafe have decided against it for the time being.
We love this city and our neighborhood and appreciate this opportunity to comment on
this issue that will directly and dramatically affect our family's quality of life. Thank you
for your consideration.
