Hi We are really trying to keep Dredging /Excavating the lake in the minds of our City Council Members and the public's as well. There is a Budget Workshop meeting on 11/13 currently scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m. in Council Chambers, City Hall. The purpose of the meeting is to set the stage for the 2015 -17 Financial Plan process. According to Michael Codron (Assistant City Manager): "Prior to the meeting, we intend to provide the City Council and community with a memo explaining our proposed process for implementing the Laguna Lake plan. This way, the information will be available for the Council to determine if we are traveling down the right path, or if there are other options available to the Council. As soon as this additional information is available, we will forward it to you" Please try and make time to attend these meetings. What has happened over the past is we will get a fairly good showing to one meeting and then little or nothing at the rest of the meetings. If we really want this to happen we need to commit to having at least 1 -2 people at each meeting and then when the budget meeting is ready to take place we fill the room - that's the meeting where they give us stickers to put on the objective (IE- dredging, tennis courts, parking structure, etc.) we want to prioritize. It's a numbers game at that point- which ever goal gets the most stickers wins basically. Every year we haven't had enough people show up and we are out voted. Attending the budget meetings is IMPORTANT- but it won't get the excavation started now- it will make the park a major city goal for NEXT year. To pressure the city into acting now we need to do the following: 1. Calling /emailin - Friends, radio stations, email news sites, city council members, clubs or organizations - basically anyone you can think of and talk about how time is running out on excavating the lake while it's dry. 2. Attending /Speaking at city council meetings- We need a presence of at least 1 person at each City council meeting to ask why the city isn't taking advantage of this rare opportunity to save millions on dredging. 3.Spread the word- Almost everyone I talk to thinks excavating the lake now is a great idea- so encourage them to email the city council (or me if they want to get involved). Many of us have been fighting to save this lake for years, almost 20 years for Jim and I, and I truly believe this drought has given us what may be a once in a lifetime opportunity. If we can rouse up enough public interest it could happen!!! Please help us. Thanks for reading this and I appreciate any help /advice. Marie Foley
