Mayor Marx and council members
I am hoping to be at the meeting this evening to address you in person but in case I'm not I want you to know that my name is Craig
Kincaid and I live at 1318 Oceanaire in SLO and I am member of the Parks and Recreation Commission. I was the only dissenting
vote on this motion, I request that you not issue an RFP for Laguna Lake Golf Course Operations and /or Maintenance primarily to
save staff time.
Director Stanwyck in response to one of our questions estimated it might take as much as 25 hours to prepare the RFP! That is time
that could be well spent doing other work.
While I think it's prudent to explore all information available before making a decision, in this case there really isn't any more
information to be gained from issuing an RFP. As background .... The vendor at Dairy Creek just filed for bankruptcy forcing the
County to take over managing the course. I have two friends who wished they weren't in the golf course business as they do nothing
but lose money.
Laguna Lake GC will never be profitable. There is no incentive for an entrepreneur to come forward with a Proposal. Laguna Lake
Golf Course is a wonderful executive 10 hole course that has been managed by Tod Bunte and PR staff as well as can be
expected. He has a competent assistant, Mathew Nolen, who has worked at the course for 8 years and is a member of the Golf Course
Superintendents Assoc of America and more than capable of taking over Tod's job when Tod retires in 2015.
I'm willing to bet money that not one single response will come in for this RFP which sheds light on a better way to manage the golf
course. The city already has competent staff for the job.
I also add that the PRC received many many emails urging us to keep Laguna Lake GC a City operated facility.
I reiterate, please do not issue an RFP for Laguna Lake Golf Course Operations and/or Maintenance and let Mathew Nolen take over
for Tod and continue operating the golf course as a city park facility.
thank you for all you do for our wonderful city
Craig Kincaid
