Dear Mayor and City Council Members,
"Ashbaugh, John"
I will be out of town and not able to attend the Public Forum on Tuesday the 13th. However, I would like
to draw your attention to the critical need to control vehicle access to the West side of the Railroad right-
of-way between the train station parking apea (near the end of High Street) south to Orcutt Road. There
are five City streets (High, Roundhouse, Francis, McMillian, & Duncan) which dead end into this area and
allow uncontrolled vehicle access into this dry dirt area. Unfortunately this area is used to dump trash,
unwanted furniture, etc. and to drive vehicles at high rates of speed spinning around and creating huge
clouds of dust that impact users of the City bike trail, Sinsheimer Park and School, and the nearby
neighborhoods. This situation could be easily corrected by the City for a very reasonable cost by blocking
off the end of these streets using structures or features that would only allow access for authorized
vehicles. I believe this would be a wise use of Measure Y/G funding and would truly benefit this area of
the City, the people using these recreational facilities, and the kids at our schools. I have spoken with
many people who are upset and disgusted with these types of activities right in the heart of our beautiful
City. Please help the citizens who use these recreational facilities and live in these surrounding
neighborhoods, by stopping this unnecessary problem. I also have photos of these activities if you'd like
to see them.
In addition, I have talked with Peggy Mandeville (City Public Works Dept.) about this problem and she's is
very familiar with it since she previously lived in the area.
Thank you for your time.
