As you know, our organization is a volunteer group working for the preservation and effective future use of a less -known city - owned historical building. As a group at the forum we asked for nothing more than awareness of the endeavor we are willing to take. I listen for nearly an hour and half. Many speakers had advocated their wants — usually at a financial cost to the city. A reasonable number of speakers were not even residents of the city. The Friends of La Loma Adobe were placed last on the schedule to speak. Admittedly, I presented my speakers card about ten minutes before our group was to speak. At this time I had showed Mr. Maruska the brief words that I had hope to deliver. Facilitator Mr. Maruska came back to me shortly after I submitted the card to tell me that I would not be able to speak. When Greg Morse, our sole speaker, did speak he did not have the time to complete his presentation. After he finished, four minutes still remained before the overall 8:30 PM deadline. Since I was unable to speak to the Council, the staff and the public -in -attendance, I hereby provide Council and staff the short talk I had wished to give at the forum, and believe, that for now, to bring the public's awareness to La Loma Adobe preservation I will need to submit this letter to the local newspapers. A perspective of the city -owned, two-story La Loma Adobe historical significance: It existed 24 years before Lewis and Clark reached the West Coast, and 30 years before the War of 1812. The Friends of La Loma Adobe voluntarily work with the city for the needed preservation of this historic treasure and appreciate your awareness and support of the endeavor. That is the sum of what I wanted to say. I did want the Council, the staff and the public to know that this building has long hidden historic value, and by referencing early historical national events that followed its origin might further spark a community interest.
