Jim Famalette, Chief Operations Officer for CAPSLO will make our presentation tonight. I hope my letter can be added to the Public Hearing record tonight. The HSC project has been moving through the City Approval process for a few months now. The ARC is scheduled for tomorrow night. As you are aware, local government, state government, nonprofits, the business community, faith -based community and volunteer groups have embraced 40 Prado as the site for the new Homeless Services Center. The outstanding collaboration between CAPSLO and RTA/SLOCOG for purchase of the 10 acres was facilitated by Mayor Jan Marx in collaboration with SLOCOG leadership. The CAPSLO Board of Directors and staff are very appreciative of the City's leadership in focusing a major City goal on the issue of Homelessness over the past 2 years. Our organizations in concert with San Luis Obispo County and HASLO have cooperated on sheltering and day services since 1989. The Friends of Prado have continued to support funding the Prado Day Center since the late 90's. The new Homeless Foundation was formed to conduct the necessary fundraising to have the HSC become a reality. The community support is overwhelmingly positive. The HSC is just part of the continuum toward permanent housing in our community with the ultimate goal of self sufficiency.... the mission of all CAPSLO programs. CAPSLO is currently involved with Transitions - Mental Health Association as a subcontractor on 50 NOW as well as serving CalWorks families with housing services through a housing grant with DSS. Lastly, a new program to serve veterans and their families began October 1. The existing supportive housing programs are managed countywide with case management and rental assistance. All coordinated with community partners -- public, nonprofit, volunteer. I urge your support and ongoing funding of the Homeless Services Center tonight. This is the next step. Thank you also for your past support and advocacy as a City who has the support of the Housing and Community Development Department in Sacramento. If any of your constituents would like tours of the current MLM Shelter or the Prado Day Center, please let me know. Also, we can meet with any interested persons concerning the plans for 40 Prado as we move forward.
