I have two separate issues for you to consider as you set goals on how to best distribute city funds for our lovely City's improvement. The first is directly related to my work as executive director of The Literacy Council. Our administrative office is now located on the second floor of the San Luis Obispo County Library. It's a great location for us: literacy and libraries go together. And, the SLO Library hosts us, treating our office space as an in -kind donation from them to us. If you haven't lately visited the SLO Library, I invite you to. It is in dire need of some very basic up -keep services. Literacy has been here just over two years and I'm pretty sure the carpets have not been shampooed in that time frame. The entire building needs some major airing out. Please give some much needed attention to and funds for the upkeep of the SLO County Library Building. It deserves to be a jewel not a mildewy log. The second issue is a bit more personal. I tripped and fell while walking in downtown San Luis Obispo. I had walking shoes on, lace -up running shoes, and one of my feet caught on some part of an uneven sidewalk. I was not injured, except maybe my pride and a little scratch on one hand. Thank goodness! Our City sidewalks are dismal and that's being kind. Please, please allocate lots of funds to repair our sidewalks. I can't imagine that you haven't already paid some major funds for personal injury lawsuits precipitated by our sidewalks. A little more cleanliness on them would be a step in the right direction, too! By the way, I guess this makes three items: Jennifer Street Bridge could use regular scrubbing. Thank you for paying attention to the issues I have addressed in this email. And, Thank You for all your hard work and efforts to keep SLO wonderful. Bernadette Bernardi
