Meeting Minutes

CALL TO ORDER: Chair Jill LeMieux
PRESENT: Levi, LeMieux, Collins, Rizzo
STAFF PRESENT: Molly Cano, Tourism Manager; Lee Johnson, Economic Development Manager
Meeting to order at 5:33 pm

ACTION: Moved by Levi/Rizzo to approve the consent agenda.

PRESENTATIONS
1. CITY OPEN SPACE REPORT
City’s Natural Resource Manager, Bob Hill and Dr. William Riggs presented the report on the
findings for City Open Space Property Facilities Assessment, User Trends, and Opportunities for
Trailhead Beautification. The committee discussed that support for this program would fit in line
with the beautification budget. The committee requested Bob Hill to return to the committee with a
proposal for a funding opportunity for Open Space Beautification in the next few months.
2. SLO CHAMBER OF COMMERCE QUARTERLY REPORT
The SLO Chamber of Commerce presented the quarterly activity reports for the contract for GIA,
Public Relations, and Visitor Center Services. The committee was very pleased with the work done
by the Chamber and was very impressed with the PR results from the quarter.
3. 2014 SLO HAPPENINGS FINAL REPORT
Verdin presented the final activity report for the 2014 SLO Happenings program. The committee
did not have any questions on the report.
BUSINESS ITEMS
1. 2015-16 GIA APPLICATION REVIEW
The committee reviewed the final 2015-16 GIA application for any final changes. They
discussed the in-kind options and directed staff to add check box for the in-kind only
application submission.

ACTION: Moved by Rizzo/Collins to approve the GIA application for 2015-16 and direct staff
to release the application in early February.
Motion carried 4:0
The application will open on Monday, February 2, 2015.
2. SLO HAPPENINGS TASKFORCE UPDATE
The taskforce updated committee on the progress made at the recent taskforce meetings and
briefly mentioned the draft outline of RFP considerations. The taskforce informed the
committee that they were looking into additional strategies to approach the process that would
be most beneficial to the purpose of the program. The committee would have more of an update
during the February meeting.
3. 2015-2016 COMMUNITY PROMOTIONS BUDGET REQUEST
The committee formulated the initial request for the programmatic budget increase for the
2015-17 financial plan. They directed staff to write the request for funds in the amount of
$40,000 ($10,000 to GIA, $10,000 to Community Enhancement & Beautification, $20 to SLO
Happenings). The discussed how the increase in funds for the PCC would restore their ability to
fulfill their mission and purpose.
4. TEAR OFF MAPS DESIGN UPDATES
Melissa Godsey from the Chamber of Commerce presented the design updates to the tear off
map for the committee approval and release of funding. Edits suggested by the committee
included: add the trail head locations, confirm the trolley schedule, and add the transit center &
post office. Overall the committee was very pleased with the redesign and directed staff to
release the funds for the production and printing of the maps.

TBID Report:
Molly Cano reported on the TBID updates.
Tourism Program Update:
Molly Cano presented the Tourism Program update:
- February will be a month full of travel
o Tradeshows
o Outlook Forum
- Homestay Ordinance was passed
o Will be contributing to TOT and TBID assessment
o Management committee will be working proactively on our policies and procedures for
integrating them into TBID programs
o Management Committee will be begin this discussion at the 1/27 meeting
- Promotion Theme: Craft Beer
o On slot of craft beer in our community
o Working on developing this theme – itineraries, partnerships, events

o SEO/social listening contractor to gauge projected impact for SLO
o Meeting with the Craft Beer Week team for promotional/partnership opportunities
Upcoming Business:
- GIA program will open on 2/2
- SLO Wine- will present to TBID in February, including an opportunity for media FAM during
April
- Event Requests
o Roll Out the Barrels in April
o 24 Hr Adventure Race
o L’Eroica (vintage bike ride)
o SAVOR for 2015 planning
- Subcommittee Dates:
o Events promotion subcommittee with PCC is currently being scheduled – please reply to
me with your availability
