In fact, I left those areas for the quality of life in SLO. That quality included a lack of large square buildings that presented sterile appearances and lack of reflection to our area. I treasure the views from my house and other parts of town. And I treasure the peace and quiet as well. Gentle hills, old volcanic peaks, and a pastoral quality surround us. Mr. Firestone's hotel will significantly alter that atmosphere and the qualities that are SLO. This edifice will be a precedent for other projects of similar nature. Before too long, the entrance corridor to our city will be a vision of any other city that is over - developed and the unique charm of SLO will be gone, replaced by sterile boxes that loom over nearby buildings and homes. For those in close proximity to the project, the noise factor will be significant. The ground level parking is not adequately buffered as is required by ordinance 1130. Neighbors will hear car doors, horns, beeps, and noisy groups who gather at the hotel. Parties and special events will be especially adverse. And the daily trash vehicles and delivery vehicles will also provide nuisance and destroy the ambience of residential areas, not just those that border the creek. Traffic on Monterey will become like the freeways that we all disdain. Heaven forbid that Diablo blows and people have to get of town quickly. This structure will loom over everything around it. Houses situated beneath it will have their privacy destroyed. The views of the surrounding hills will be gone, replaced by a large, sterile cube. Lights will replace a sky that features stars and solitude. While it is true that the hotel will make the height limitation by inches, its visual presence will make it seem much larger, especially compared to the surrounding buildings. Finally, I worry that property values will degrade as a result of this project. My home is what I will leave my children. I do not want to see the value drop because Mr. Firestone persists in constructing this mistaken project. Sincerely, Wendy Daly 1775 Conejo Ave., SLO 93401 543 -9447
