I'm a resident of Monterey Heights and writing this letter in support of the hotel proposal at 1865 Monterey Street. I'm aware of the residents on San Luis Street opposing some or all of the project, and their attempt to garner support from the Monterey Heights residents. I'm a believer in neighborhood cooperation, have been a consistent proponent of maintaining safe, quiet and clean neighborhoods and have been proactive seeking my neighbors cooperation to utilize "phone trees" to notify the police of student noise violations. However, opposing this hotel is a cause I cannot support. My position comes from many years of procuring use permit entitlements. I'm familiar with the planning process and the City's various planning documents to provide guidance to hopefully obtain an approval. As such, if a proposed develop adheres to all the City's development ordinances such as zoning, height, setbacks and parking, and has ARC approval and staff support, then there should be the expectation from our elected council members to consider these facts. While the viewpoint of the opponents is an important part of your review, your consideration shouldn't be affected by the number of them attending a hearing. After all, San Luis Obispo includes over 40,000 people and certainly not represented by, in comparison, the few residents who happen to live nearby a proposed project they oppose. Thank you for taking the time to consider my viewpoint. I'm hopeful for a fair review and a decision based on both the facts and the applicant's adherence to the City's planning regulations that we all rely on to guide development for our entire community.
