The outpouring of residents opposed to this project would have been enough for me to either derail the project or, as the mayor proposed, send it back to the Planning Commission for further review and refinement. I believe the height of the structure will impede upon the privacy of the neighbors along San Luis Drive and the noise and light generated by the hotel's guests will detract from the residents' enjoyment of their property and homes. Such a shame! I wonder how you'd feel if this was your neighborhood? Neighborhood wellness is something the Council talks about often, but your actions tell a far different story. Your decision Tuesday night displayed a complete disregard for neighborhood wellness. Of the scores of residents who testified, the overwhelming majority (if not all) were opposed to this project. It seems too often that public testimony falls on deaf council ears - as if your minds are made up before the meeting even begins. I fear you have become too sympathetic to builders' greed and demands (and influence) - or are getting greedy yourselves to bring in ever more tax revenue so you'll have more to spend - or perhaps it's a combination of these two? Either way, you are slowly eroding the quality of life in our neighborhoods. Consider your lack of addressing the Cal Poly dorm expansion which will impact another long established neighborhood that continues to deteriorate in its quality of life. Once again the Council discounted the legitimate concerns raised by a neighborhood. These residents who bring you their concerns are the ones you're elected to represent - not the big developers who simply want to make a profit here by building the largest and tallest structure they can legally fit on a piece of property! I hope you will see the shallowness of your claim to promote neighborhood wellness. Either stop your mantra or follow through with actions that back your words. If you don't then our town's residents may resolve this matter by electing representatives who will listen and represent them. Regards, John Grady San Luis Obispo
