MAR 11 2015 I just wanted to add an opinion regarding the roof aspect of the Cal Poly debacle. Our home is off Tank Farm, so we really don't have neighborhood Cal Poly incidents. However, as I read where Mr. Ashbaugh stated people on the roof watching sunsets etc, or the Tribune's comments about another ordinance, I want to respond to you. A couple of years ago, my oldest son was finishing college in San Francisco, he went up on the roof to make a call, there was not a party. The railing broke and he fell 5.5 stories. Was in a coma for a month and broken from head to toe. He fell with the railing. I left SLO and stayed up in SF for 5 months while he was in the hospital. He then came back to SLO and stayed with us for another year to recover. Some years back, our friend's son, fell off a roof while 'watching a sunset', in Manhattan Beach, broke his neck and died. Not at a party. We are all so very lucky no one was seriously hurt this past weekend. My only point is party or no, ordinances are important to keep young people safe. Sadly common sense or just the law of gravity can meet with horrible circumstances. Thank you for your time. Sincerely, Joni Nelson 594 1909
