Why do you want to serve on a City advisory body? It is my way of contributing to the community that I live. I enjoy every day the benefits of other volunteers and wish to be a contributor to our good community life - even if it is only a small part of the community. 2. Why do you want to be a member of the JUC and what do you hope to accomplish? I have personally chosen youth sports as the area to contribute my time. The JUC is a commission that has the ability to help update facilities to match youth requirements. It is my personal desire to have the commission supervise the use of sports fields by all youth organizations. Currently, there is a big contest for the use of fields - with the result of some fields being overused and others ignored. Football, soccer and baseball often want the same fields. These organizations have. not worked with each other to work out a formula to assign fields. And, the fields are often overused. The JUC is preparing to organize the use.of Cal Poly and Cuesta fields for SLO youth sports. My desire for the JUC to step up and supervise the distribution and use of fields fits with the general direction of the JUC. 3. Have you ever attended a meeting of the JUC or another City advisory body? What observations did you make? Yes. I always admire the time and effort of community individuals working for the whole community - often unnoticed by the community. 4. What qualities, experiences, and expertise make you a good candidate for the JUC? I have been a participant in sports; I am a business manager; I have a strong belief that youth involved in sports are better in school and in their personal relationships with their peers. And, I have always contributed my time to the community. 5. In your view, what are some key recreational use issues in SLO? I do not see a youth sport long-term plan for the community. This is something I am sure that is probably not part of many communities. However, it is something that our Parks Department should be involved - not just a plan which shows where new parks will be built as housing developments are built. But, a plan which takes into consideration the number of youths and their possible direction into sports, and then the specific facilities to support these sports. Attachment 2 Page 3 of 3 On a second point, there are communities that are now using youth sport facilities as tourist draws. Sports facilities in use year round drawing tourists into the local economy - where other types of tourist attractions are limited. We can develop our future facilities with this is mind. 6. Is there any additional information about yourself you'd like to share? (Please feel free to attach a resume, if you have one) None.
